Question : Can ping and resolve hostnames but cant browse internet

Hi everyone,

I have a client on a network, 1 SBS server, 1 Modem/Router (ADSL2+), SBS runs DNS & DHCP

All of a sudden this morning they are unable to browse internet. Internal network operations are ok - EG internal mail works ok as well as internal file sharing. However companyweb dosn't work.

Things i have tried:

Remove and reinstall network card driver
Have tried static IP
Disabled AV
Renamed hosts file
Have tried both IE and FIREFOX
Have removed HDD and scan as slave in another machine - no threats of any kind detected
SFC /scannow
Installed Windows xp SP3 plus all updates

I can ping www.google.com.au from a command prompt but cannot browse to it

Im really stumped on this one, normally i would just rebuild however this is the one person in the building with every application under the sun.....you know the kind of client!

Some guru help would be well appreciated

cheers

Answer : Can ping and resolve hostnames but cant browse internet

Well, my first question I posted here was about DHCP. I had a user that could not get an ip with dhcp on his home computer.
The problem seemed so simple! But after 1 day and a half of frustrating work, after trying everything (use 3 kinds of wireless adapters, using wired adapter, fixing winsock, reinstalling TCP/IP, repairing windows, restoring to a previous date) I examnined closely program files, and found out that the user had Comodo Security that blocked most of his ports.
He did an unistall the wrong way and got it off the Add/Remove programs list, startup, etc, but the process blocking the ports was still running!
I solved it by restoring Comodo, and unblocking the ports.
But guess what? I performed a full format anyway the next week because the computer was running slow after trying everything and going through repair and restore.
At least I was very happy that I found the problem :P
