Question : Revers DNS lookup zone on windows 2003 server
|
|
Hi. I have a BIG problem with my server. i got some returnet emails that said i am listed on DSBL. Please see http://dsbl.org/listing?83.136.123.74
Now i got the piont. But i am unable, better said i don't know how to make a revers dns zone.
I have made one like the following: 123.136.83.in-addr.arpa ( 83.136.123.x Subnet )
I have added a new PTR record in this zone ( mail.lucya.ro ) - this is one of hosted domains - and the name server as
ns1 Alias(CNAME) ns2 Alias(CNAME)
and for the SOA is: ns1.domainname.ltd, [email protected]
NOTE THAT domainname.ltd is a functionally domain that i don't want to make it public
So, you have any ideea to solve this ??

Your not going to be able to do it to my mind. The reverse dns takes the ip and looks up the name of the domain name registered with it and you haven't got one. AOL is a prime example of mail servers that lookup the ip address of the doamin that has sent them mail then they run a reverse lookup on the IP. As long as the IP address and the doamin tally tie up then all is well. Obviously yours will fail as the external IP address you have is not going to tie up with your internal domain name.
You cannot create the ptr record yourself unless control of the reverse zone has been assigned to you by the 'owners' of that IP range. Without publishing the domain name so it is associated with the IP address, I cannot see how you will succeed for the sites that require that verification.
