Question : Root Hints in DNS config

I have a question regarding Root Hints. When I look at my DNS config and look at the Root Hints tab, I see Servers listed but no IP addresses. I am not having problems (none I am aware of anyway) but in checking config settings with another DC I am having some problems with at another llocation on  a different network, I notice their Root Hints tab has IP addresses associated with all Server entries. Should my working DCs have these IP addresses and if so how do I put them in

Answer : Root Hints in DNS config

You must definitely have root hints listed with ipaddresses in all your DNS servers. They are needed as when forwarders fail to resolve any DNS name, the name resolution will use root hints as an alternate method.

Forwarders are preffered over root hints but that doesn't mean that you leave your root hints empty on your DNS server.

In order to re-populate them with ipaddresses, you have an option to copy it from another server which has those root hints listed. it's given in the root hints tab of your DNS server properties.
