Question : question about DNS and A, CNAME and MX record

My site is hosted by Hostgator and I registered a domain on a cheap registrar that allow me to change the DNS records of type A, CNAME and MX.

I would to point the domain on my hostgator site but I don't know whether changing the A, CNAME and MX records are all I need to do it.

Hostgator has these name servers:
ns185.hostgator.com
ns186.hostgator.com

How should I set the A, CNAME and MX records? are these changes all I need to manage ALL about the domain with Hostgator?

Answer : question about DNS and A, CNAME and MX record

First you hoster needs to be aware that he should serve that domain. If he is not then the webserver won't know what to do with the request even if all DNS settings are correct.

If you have a domain hosted at hostgator, get its DNS vlaues over http://www.zoneedit.com/lookup.html. Enter as domain name you domain without www and search type any. There you should get the A record and MX record you need. Enter the same values in your new domain.
