Question : Can,t browse or ping but can tracrt

Suddenly a remoteXPPRO machine that I am trying to work on cannot browse the internet.
I VPN into the network and have VNC to the desktop.
It Appears like a DNS issue. The DNS forwards to the router. I can ping from the diagnostics on the router. What is weird is Tracert works which implies that the DNS is resolving. Ping on the otherhand could not find the host. It is driving me mad.
This Machine is running IIS as a map server and it now cannot browse the internet.
Another technician recently made changes to IIS to increase the number of connections and I think that is when it broke. Can someone talk me through diagnosing why web requests and pings dont seem to have DNS services but Tracert does???

Answer : Can,t browse or ping but can tracrt

Interesting indeed.  While I'm looking into how Tracert name resolution is performed, it does look like you're still having DNS issues.  It would appear that your workstation uses 192.168.4.254 (my.router) as your DNS server.  I would verify the DNS forwarders on this device - which typically point to your ISP's DNS servers.

I would make sure you can ping the IP addresses for these DNS servers.  You can also use the following commands to test the remote DNS servers for name resolution:

nslookup
server x.x.x.x (where x.x.x.x is the IP address of your ISP DNS server)
