Question : Incorporating a file server into NDS
|
|
I am trying to incorporate a file server into an NDS tree and am having problems.
The main server is running Netware 5.00.09[DS], the new file server is running 5.00h[DS]. When installing netware I had it install into the NDS tree on the first server.
The problem is: whenever I log in, I go into NWAdmin and try to access the file server, I get a "server not found" error.
Things I've tried: if I go into NDSmgr32 the file server is there and if I tell it to send and recieve updates, I can access the file server until the next time I log out.
What should I do?

Methinks you have incompatible versions of netware. It appears your Master Replica is NDS 7 and you have installed NDS 8 on the new server. Updating the MAster with Sp2a will not get you to NDS 8, that is a seperate and, not straight forward, upgrade. If the new server is not yet operational, nothing important is on it, you may decide to wipe the new server and reinstall, choosing NDS 7 so all your servers are at the same level. This is not dumb on your part, but there is a lot to mixing servers with different versions of NDS. You may also choose to upgrade your NDS 7 servers to NDS 8, which provides eDirectory. If you choose to do this, READ all you can and practice the upgrade on a test server, don't just try to upgrade from NDS 7 to NDS 8 on your Master Replica without being comfortable with the process. Additionally, there are some prerequisite downloads on the http://support.novell.com site that are required prior to performing this upgrade.
