Question : Cannot log onto my domain
|
|
hi,
I came in this morning and got this weirdness.... I cannot log onto the domain, neither can anyone else. It was working fine on Sat. but I'm not sure if I screwed somthing up. When I try to log on I get "The system cannot log on to the domain because the system's computer account in its primary domain is missing or the password on that account is incorrect" I've manually added the computer name to the AD under computers but this does not work. The strange thing is if I reboot the AD server and then try to log on while it's rebooting it will let me in. I did mess with the DNS a while back, maybe this has something to do with it. Thanks in advance for your help!

What are your clients running? Windows 2000 PRO, Windows XP? What did you do with DNS? Maybe clients can't find a Domain Controller?
Well, DNS aside for now, try this:
Try removing 1 PC from the domain, (down to a workgroup) then re-join the domain: * * If you remove a PC from the domain, you MUST know the local machine administrator account password, or you'll be locked out * *
This is what you'd do if you had Windows 2000 PRO client PCs:
1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click System. 2. On the Network Identification tab, click Properties. 3. Under Member Of, click Workgroup, type the name of a workgroup to join, and then click OK. 4. Click OK again. 5. Restart the computer.
To add the Windows 2000 Professional client back to the domain, follow these steps: 1. Navigate to Properties. 2. Under Member Of, click Domain, type the name of the domain that you want to join, and then click OK.
You are prompted to provide a user name and user password to join the computer to the domain. 3. Restart the computer.
