Question : Steps to upgrade Windows 2000 server to Server 2003

I have some concerns about an upgrade to my Windows 2000 Root server.  It has DNS and AD configured.  I posed a question last year regarding a single ended domain name (mydomain). The issue being that the resolution was to upgrade to windows server 2003 to change the name of the domain to a fully qualified domain name (mydomain.com, .net ) etc.  This will be done.  I am not sure of the order of services to be upgraded.  I will bring down my other servers to stand-alone servers and then once the upgrade is complete, I will then bring them back online with the fully qualified domain name.  (1st) concern is:  Active Directory preservation. (2nd) concern:  In what order should the root server's names be changed?  Which is first? The domain name or server name, because both need to be changed. (3rd) concern:  Roaming Profiles; will the accounts be affected by this upgrade?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
