Question : Encapsulation And OSI Model

I was wondering if someone could explain the benefits of encapsulation in the OSI model.

But basically as you go down the OSI layers, headers/footers are added at each layer. When the data gets to the physical layer, it is sent to the other computer. On teh other computer, you go up the OSI layers, removing the headers/footers on each layer until your left with the data at the top on teh application layer
