Question : Slow Internet on WinXP with Server 2008 DNS
New DC and file server using Server 2008. When WinXP computers on the LAN are using this server as DNS, Internet browsing is extremely slow and "page not found" errors crop up frequently. If machine DNS is set to 4.2.2.2 or to the old Server 2003 DC and file server, these same page refs are very fast and there are no "page not found" errors. Changing the DNS back and forth this problem can be reproduced at will.
This server (Svr09) replicates AD with another server on another site (Svr01). It also does DFS replication with the old Server 2003 DC (Svr02) and with Svr01. DNS is configured with forwarders to ISP DNS. Server has a static ip and the DNS setting on its nic is set to the actual ip.
The machines on the LAN are all WinXP, so we don't know if this issue would occur with Vista.
Answer : Slow Internet on WinXP with Server 2008 DNS
Disable IPv6 on the Windows 2008 server make sure there are no external DNS servers listed in your TCP\IP settings. Run ipconfig /flushdns, ipconfig /registerdns, dcdiag /fix.
Have you entered the DNS Forwarders in your Windows 2008 server also?
