Question : Monitor Network to find bottlenecks.
|
|
Hi, I have a network with one main location and two remote locations connected to main through PPP T1 lines. The main location acts as the DHCP for all locations and DNS server. The main location has the only connection to the Internet through a PIX 506E. Most applications seem to work acceptably from the remote locations but we have some that are extremely slow. We have a total of 35 computers. My question is what software is available that will monitor the network traffic so I can see what is eating up the bandwidth.
Thanks

You ever try any of these tools? Very useful and FREE! You can setup graphing any element based on SNMP or even your own created scripts in batch jobs, shell scripts, or perl, or whatever.
I use Cacti at home to graph a couple Windows, Linux, Unix, and Cisco. It is a treat to see the trends on the home network.
Full packages that will monitor and graph elements that you configure: http://www.cacti.net/ http://cricket.sourceforge.net/
MRTG and RRDTOOL are more basic engines: http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~oetiker/webtools/mrtg/ http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~oetiker/webtools/rrdtool/
Good Luck! James
