|
|
Dear All,
I have one desktop computer and a laptop. I would like to make desktop my server and laptop the client. I am having internet connection in desktop computer using dial up connection(using USB) and I want to share this connection to laptop. I have windows Xp installed in both and I connected both the desktop and laptop using cat5 cable to the network adapters.
i have followed this link to share the internet connection. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;306126&sd=tech
but when I tried to select the sharing option I got this error.
"Cannot enable shared access." and "Error 1003: cannot complete this function"
Please help me to rectify this problem. I have one more question also.
when I see in my friends computer and tried to open the properties of dial up connection ,i haven't seen the option "share the internet connection of this computer to another one". Please let me know what I need to install in this computer to get this option.
with regards, Dinesh.

My understanding, you are using USB Modem for Internet Access (Desktop) and is successful, and a Cross Cable for linking of Desktop and Latop. Both machine have set IP to automatically obtain (especially the Laptop).
When you link the two machine, is the network enable? Control Panel-->Network Connections-->Double Click on Local Area Connection (Both Desktop and Latop status have to be connected)
Under Control Panel-->Network Connections, right click on the connection type (e.g. Your ISP), click on properties. You should have an Advanced Tab as the last tab. Proceed Under Internet Connection Sharing, select the Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection check box. Select "Local Area Connection"
You may want to try recreate your dial up connection on your desktop if Advanced Tab is not there at all Refer to http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;305549 for details
Cheers
