Question : Local Network Transfer very slow

Hi,

I want to transfer a lot of data from my laptop (running on Vista) to my desk computer (XP Pro).

But the transfer is *very* low.

It starts from 4 Go/sec and keeps going down, now it is soon 300 ko / sec ...

I have just put a network cable between both

How can I fix this ?
Is there any software that help detect what causes the slow transfer ?

Try to install this patch to Vista as it has known problem regarding VERY slow copying.

It improved the copy operation performance for 1000% in my case, but I'm also having problems copying via network, one thing is it's slow and another thing is that it makes Vista unresponsible in periodic intervals (like 10 seconds ok, 20 seconds dead, 10 seconds ok, 20 seconds dead).
