Question : Adding another DC to our second domain. 2003 server. Says the forest/domain is not prep'd
|
|
i currently have forest with 2 domains. 1 domain has 2 x 2003 server and the second domain has 1 x 2003 server and 1 x 2000 server. I am trying to add another 2003 server to domain B but its telling me this,
--------------------------- Active Directory Installation Wizard --------------------------- The operation failed because:
The Active Directory Installation Wizard cannot continue because the forest is not prepared for installing Windows Server 2003. Use the Adprep command-line tool to prepare both the forest and the domain. For more information about using the Adprep, see Active Directory Help.
"The version of the Active Directory schema of the source forest is not compatible with the version of Active Directory on this computer." ------------------------------
I'm confused because i have already ran adprep /forestprep and /domainprep on my forest schema master server and it says its already completed. the 2000 server on domain B only has service pack 3, but i don't see how that could be any issue as i already have a 2003 server as a DC on domain B.
Please help!!
thanks,
Chad

see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917385
"This issue may occur when Active Directory has not been updated with the Windows Server 2003 R2 schema extensions."
I bet your original 2003 server is not R2, is it? And the new one that you're trying to make a DC is. Or, your AD master server is the 2000 box.
Run the "adprep.exe /forestprep" command using the R2 release of the executable, per the KB article above.
