Question : DHCP Not Working on new Windows 2008 Server

We have a small home network we are trying to get DHCP working.  Previously we had it running using the DHCP option on our router but this was giving us problems resolving names on our LAN.  We have turned the DHCP option off on the the router and installed the DHCP role on the server, set the scope, etc using the wizard.  The ip address of the server is static (192.168.0.3) as is the router (192.168.0.1).  The scope has been set to the range 192.168.0.20 to 192.168.0.100.

Theserver is MS Windows 2008 and the client is MS Vista Business fully patched.

Running ipconfig /renew on my client PC set to aquire all info dynamically gave an error that it could not locate the DHCP server.  When I set the ip settings manuall everythign works a treat.  The manual settings I used were:

IP: 192.168.0.19
sub: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 192.168.0.1 (The router)
DNS: 192.168.0.3 (DHCP and DNS server)

Any thoughts on why it cannot find the DHCP server and do some magic?

Answer : DHCP Not Working on new Windows 2008 Server

Just to clarify again :

You have to right click on your server name under DHCP MMC to check if its authorized or not and to check for Bindings etc

You have to right click on your SCOPE under DHCP MMC > SERVER NAME > SCOPE to deactivate and activate.

Check for bindings will list Network cards which are configured with a static IP and are ready to service clients.

Hope this Helps
