Question : Default Gateway offline
|
|
Hello Experts,
I have a set up where I share one DSL line between a desktop and a wireless laptop. It goes via a brocade wireless router.
Everything was working fine 2 days ago, have not changed anything, and now my laptop wont connect to the internet, even though it seems to be contacting the wireless router OK. The desktop machine is working fine.
When I open a browser it says cannot find server and page not displayed. I try to log into MSN and it comes up with a trouble shooting window for the connection. When I run that troubleshooter and it says the "your gateway seems to be offline", and stops at item 2.
I've tried using an ethernet cable to the router, no difference.
I'm not very windows savvy, and was hoping for some help in guiding me through this problem.
Thanks
(am running windows XP pro)

This indicates the machine is not communicating with the DHCP server. If you're doing wireless, and getting a goood connection, try turning your machine off, rebooting the wireless router, and then turn your machine on.
utoconfiguration IP adress: 169.254.196.134 subnet mask: 255.255.0.0 deafult gateway : (blank)
If it still doesn't work, then try plugging your machine in with a cable and doing the same thing.
