Question : Best WiFi Hotspot Solution

Hey Guys,

I'm looking for the best solution for a simple hotspot.  Its a small coffee-shop that will have just a few users a day (at most!).

There are a couple machines on the LAN and I want them to be protected.  It would also be nice to have some sort of a 'shut off after closing time' solution (besides just pulling the plug).  I've set up a lot of wireless LANs but haven't dealt much with public hotspots.

Thanks for all the great answers (ahead of time).

Answer : Best WiFi Hotspot Solution

I think grblades has the best suggestion, you can get a cheap WAP and jack it straight into the Linux box, with IPTables and Cron you should be good to go. Just make sure YOUR PCs that you want protected are on a different subnet, and make sure that IPTables witll drop packets from the WiFi sub to the wired sub. Clean, Good Perfomance, and best of all Inexpensive. I have much the same config running at my house, mainly as a lab/testing enviornment. Put it all together for under $100 and works GREAT!
