Question : VPN IP address and LAN IP address clash?
|
|
I have a desktop machine connected to a LAN. The DHCP server on the LAN assigns an IP address of 192.168.1.xxx with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. This works fine for LAN and internet access via a router. I also have a PPTP VPN connection over the internet to a Windows 2000 RAS server which assigns IP addresses in the range 192.168.0.50 to 192.168.0.99, with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0.
When connecting to the VPN, the connection is made successfully over the internet and my computer is registered on the Windows 2000 RAS server. However, when I try to map a network drive, it comes up as network path unavaialble. If I disconnect and try exactly the same procedure via a dial-up connection to the internet rather than my LAN connection, everything works fine and I cam map and explore the netowrk drive successfully. The only thing I can think of is that there is some sort of clash between my LAN topology and the VPN topology.
Can you help??

Clive,
Sorry been very busy these last couple of days.
OK so we get an ip of 192.168.0.54, thats cool.
No when the vpn is up, do a tracert to the server you are trying to map. You can see the ras server and can ping it.
This is quite a difficult one because it works when connected to Dial up to the internet but not on the lan. Are you trying to map using a name or just ip address ??
