Question : Irritating problem with Novell Drive Mapping in WinXP
I recently upgraded my server workstation from Win98se to WinXP Pro. I'm running a Novell 5 Server. Now everytime I log into the network on the WinXP workstation (Novell Client version 4.9) my "F" drive maps itself to the volume's system folder on the novell server instead of the root where it's supposed to be. If I novell re-map the drive letter to the root and check the box to re-map the drive next time windows starts it doesn't save. Goes back to \\system after restart. Anyone have this problem too?

WinXP pro, as well as WinNT4 and Win2K, all have the same character flaw that Win9x did not have: it wants to map-root everything whether you tell it to map root or not.
The easiest fix is to add DOS SET MAPROOTOFF = "1" in your container login script ahead of your drive mappings. You could also add a system environment variable on the workstation itself, called MapRootOff, with a value of 1.
