Question : ActiveSync vs Wireless Sync
|
|
Hi,
My boss has this new Verizon XV6800 smart phone and I notice there are various ways for syncing the device.
1. Verizon's own WirelessSync 2. Microsoft's ActiveSync
Then theres also the the Direct Push funcionality that can be enabled on Exchange.
My boss doesnt want his contacts to get duplicated and only wants one method of synchronization.
Can you suggest what would be the best way to do this. Do I have to use both of them to achieve the deisred functionality, namely:
1. Instant email
2. One-way synchronization, the PDA being the slave and the PC being the master. The last time he synced the phone, duplication took place and contacts from the phone wrote over her PC contacts and was a big mess. We wish to avoid this issue this time over.
3. What is the difference between syncing with the Exchange server and a PC with outlook running on it.
Thanks
Also is there a one way synch

I have not set this up myself as there are no Windows Mobile 2005 devices within our organisation but if you have a look at this article, it has some very handy information regarding the whole process, requirements and changes to make:
http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Exchange-2003-Mobile-Messaging-Part1-Microsoft-DirectPush-technology.html
Since this is done over HTTPS, no changes should need to be made in your current firewall config, altough the article above suggests increasing the time-out values for HTTPS connections
