Question : PCs on the LAN slow down intermittently

Since yetreday all the  PCs on the LAN slow down intermittently. They seem to work fine for most of the time but every few minutes tasks like opening a file from a network drive or opening an application such as word become slow. eg it can take up to 7-8 seconds to opena file or folder. Can anybody suggest any potential problems and how to resolve them? or any ways of figuring out what is going on ?

Since the problem on all machines, and the common point for all of them is your Switch, So I suspect the culprit is your switch.

Try to connect to the server using a crossover cable and see if that make any difference.
