Question : Can't eject Tape when backup fails
|
|
I have a Windows2000 Advanced Server for backup (full). We are using ntbackup program to backup in to DLT tapes of Compaq, Fujifilm and Digital. In some days I get error messages like this: "Error: The device reported an error on a request to write data to media. Error reported: Bad data". I think this is problem related to tape, because when I replace a new tape the ntbackup program completes without any error. My problem is that when I trap with this problem I want to shutdown the server for 2 minutes and start again to get the tape outside. I can't eject the tape from Management Console, even the restart will not work. This server is hosting some important services, so the restart of server is very critical to us. I want to eject the tape (by force) without system shutdown. How? I tried to eject the tape from command line (as I read recently), but it is not working. The command rsm need the parameters like Physical Media ID, Slot ID, Library ID, Drive ID... I don't know how to get these values. When I give the friendly name(Quantum DLT4000 CPQ DRV SCSI Sequential Device) it returns this error: "Unable to parse arguments."
Here I am giving some links which I used to refer the command line commands for ntbackup:

Answer : Can't eject Tape when backup fails

It would be a small hole, like the one you see on the front of a CD-Rom drive, to remove a disk while the power is off.
However, As far as I know, in order to remove a tape manually from a DLT Drive involves removing the drive from the chassis, and carefully spinning the flywheel attached to the drive motor that drives the "Supply" reel with a screwdriver, (The reel in the cartridge) Because there is only one reel in the cartridge, the tape must be "re-racked" in order to be ejected.
