Question : "Home Directory Inaccessible" Error - new ftp site on Windows 2K3 Server using 'isolate users using Active Directory"

I tried listing this question on the Server 2003 page, but am getting no responses, so maybe I'll get some experienced ppl here with ideas....

I have a 2k3 server which is also a d.c. in an active directory environment.  I'm trying to create an ftp site using 'isolate users using active directory'.  I already have a simple ftp site running, which doesn't isolate users and has a root directory defined in the ftp site properties, etc., but I want to be able to isolate out using a.d.

Let me list out the things I've done, to cover what doesn't need changing:
1)created the ftp site, choosing to isolate using a.d., and gave it domain administrator credentials to use.
2)created the users in active directory users and computers for the ftp site, adding them to another newly created group called 'ftp'.
3)added the group 'ftp' to the 'allow logon locally' and 'allow to access from the network' in the domain controller security policy, and did a 'gpupdate /force' to update the security policy.
4)downloaded and installed adsi edit to edit 1 test user called 'avenza', changing their 'msIIS-ftpdir' and 'msIIS-ftproot' to 'd:\data\shared3\ftp\outside\avenza' and 'd:\data\shared3\ftp\outside', respectively.
5)even went into the user properties in a.d. users and computers and changed the home directory for the user 'avenza' to 'd:\data\shared3\ftp\outside\avenza', though I don't think it's supposed to use this when isolating with a.d. (correct me if I'm wrong in that assumption, however)
6)Checked the security on the folders right the way through (d:\,d:\data,d:\data\shared3......to the avenza folder) and made sure avenza has access, which it does.

If I enable the 'simple' ftp site, the user gets in and goes to it's home directory ok.  If I enable the isolated-through-a.d. site, however, and disable the other one, I still get the error about the home directory being inaccessible.

What am I missing? *argh*...thanks in advance for any help.  (this is a relatively urgent need that I need to get this working smoothly a.s.a.p., so hence the 500 pts..)

Although there's a chance still...

Can you try it with:

FTP Root: D:\Data\Shared3\FTP\Outside\
FTP Dir: /Avenza

In addition to that there's a utility called Filemon written by systeminternals which will go a long way to pin-pointing any permission based problems.
