Question : difference between restricted and unrestricted PIX es.
|
|
Hello
Could you please explain what the difference between a restricted and unrestricted PIX 515 E ? Also, I wonder if I'm doing the right thing, but I'll set up a dedicated windows os web server connected to a 2mbit SDSL line (with 2mbit upload / download) and I need to put a firewall between the modem and the server. I was thinking of a PIX 515 E DMZ Bundle, but I'm not sure if it's an overkill. I just want stateful inspection, IDS / IPS etc. and I also need a DMZ port just in case I need to connect internal clients to the internet using the server.. Please advise.

If it is within your budget, go for it. Cisco makes quality equipment and I have small and large clients using PIX firewalls. From the 506 to the 515E w/failover or 525. There are 3 types of license available for the 515. restricted, unrestricted, and failover. The difference between restricted and unrestricted is about $3000 and includes a memory upgrade. As for exactly what features are different, go to http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/vpndevc/ps2030/products_data_sheet09186a00800b0d85.html
Let me know if you need additional information.
