Question : ipv6 is it of any use in my infrastructure?

Hi All.

Please can you help with the query below.

I am now thinking I should diable the IPv6 protocol stack on the Windows
2008 servers.

i have a few questions:

- Does disabling the Windows 2008 IPv6 protocol stack cause any problems for
Windows 2008 server or exchange 2007 communications ?

- will disabling ipv6 give me any speed benefits on the network?

- We intend to deploy Windows XP desktop and not Windows Vista on the
desktop and we have no plans to add IPv6 to the Windows XP desktop build So
is there any benefit in leaving the Windows 2008 IPv6 protocol stack
installed?

Please can you help as i am very confused on the IPv6 protocol.

Thanks in advance.
Arran

Answer : ipv6 is it of any use in my infrastructure?

You would probably only need to use IPv6 if you have a very very large infrastructure with tens of thousands of VLAN's and isolated networks etc. There are not many companies who have adopted IPv6 apart from some in Japan and China that I know of. You can safely remove these from your servers but it wont give you any speed benefits.

I normally just leave it alone on 2008 servers and ignore it.
