Question : Setting up up Home network with Windows XP, Spooler Subsytem app. error

I have three computers and a ADSL router/modem.  One computer (the main) connects via a cable to the router, the other two computers connect via wireless (the router has a built in Wireless access point).

I have been trying to set up a home network.  I do not want to go through one computer, to get to the internet.  ie. I want each computer to be able to access directly.

When I try to run the Network setup wizard, I get an error.  ie. Spooler Subsystem app. Error.  It asks me if I want to send an error report to Microsoft and then it allows me to continue.  I then create a network disk and run it on the other computers, but then I actually loose the internet connection.

Note, I have a 1394 adapter that registers as a Lan/High Speed internet connection.  When the Wizard tries to bridge connections, I select only the correct network adapter as when I did not do this in the past, it bridged the 1394 and caused me problems.

Answer : Setting up up Home network with Windows XP, Spooler Subsytem app. error

If youa re using XP you should check if the firewall is enabled in your network connection settings:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/using/howto/networking/icf.asp

You can disable the firewall if you are behind a router, NAT routers cannot pass random packets to machines on the LAN without preconfigured settings.

Also what you should do is make all machines part of the same workgroup (even though it says 2k its the same as XP):

http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/en/professional/help/default.asp?url=/windows2000/en/professional/help/sysdm_ident_join_workgroup.htm

Then, whatever drives you want to access, share them out:

THen click my network places and you should be able to see them. Firewalls arent really nessesary if you have a ROUTER, if you have anything else then you need a firewall.
