Question : DNS takes 5 or more seconds to resolve

All of the pcs on our network take 5 to 7 seconds to resolve DNS. Once Dns is resolved for that page it loads fine, but if you navigate away from the page and try to go back you have to wait to resolve once again.

The way our network is setup is we have 2 DNS. On the primary server there is no delay for browsing. On the secondary DNS server theres roughly a 1 to 2 seconds delay. Then as I mentioned all of the workstations take 5 to 7 seconds. Both servers are 2003 standard, and all the workstations are windows XP, except 2 which are running windows 7.

Steps i've already taken are swapping the DNS servers around, testing an external DNS server like openDNS (which did not work), Flushed the DNS and ARP caches on our firewall, switches, and servers. Wen through DNS with a fine toothed comb to make sure there are no bad entries. Plugged a laptop into our main switch to make sure its not a switch issue.

Anyone have anyideas how to resolve this?

Answer : DNS takes 5 or more seconds to resolve

If this is a Windows Domain, then you realy should be using AD Integrated DNS, in which case BOTH DNS servers would in effect be primary DNS servers. Both should be set with forwarders as detailed at http://www.petri.co.il/configure_dns_forwarding.htm
