Question : Adding computer to existing small network with switch and 2 computers

Hi,
Anybody know of a good tutorial for setting up a small home network with a switch?  There are 3 computers, 2 of which run Windows 2000 and the other Windows98.  The network is already functioning with 2 computers (installed by someone else last year), but I'm going to be adding a third and I don't really know what I'm doing.
Also, what IP address does the switch use.  If I type ipconfig at the main computer I get the IP address as supplied by the broadband provider (SBC).  If I type ipconfig on the second computer I get 192.168.0.110.  Do I need to know the IP of the switch to get anything done?  Do I just give the new computer an IP of something like 192.168.0.111?  BTW, I only need file and print sharing, not ICS.  The main computer only needs access to the Internet.
Thanks.

Answer : Adding computer to existing small network with switch and 2 computers

Mostly likely if you just insert your new computer into the network it will pick up the proper IP from the Router/Switch.
It looks like DHCP is enabled and giving the other computers their IPs.

You would make sure the new computer is configured wih the same Workgroup name as the others and you should be good.

The Router/Switch should have an IP address of 192.168.0.1, you can determine this on the Windows 2000 computers by going to Start -> Run, type in cmd at the prompt and press OK.

And at the prompt type ipconfig /all
And Enter.

The router/Switch Ip will be the IP listed as Default Gateway, you should also see a DHCP Server listed which should be the same IP.

What OS will the new computer have?

Hope this helps...
