Question : network problem

hi...
i have just bought a new laptop, i wanted to connected to internet, but the laptop can accept the connection and not allow accessing internet. the laptop is new and the OP is Vista, and i directly connect my laptop to the modem,,, please note that my connection is wired, and the same wire i use for my old computer  while  is working fine with no problems.

Have you tried rebooting the modem?  I would do the following:

1. Shutdown the computer
2. Power off the modem
3. Wait  about 30 seconds
4. Power on the modem
5. Wait another 30 seconds
6. Power on the PC and test the Internet
