Question : Origo Wireless Broadband Router Annoyance
|
|
I have the stated broadband router with the product code WLL 3810. It is really annoying me that I have it connected to my PC which has ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) and my parent's machine over the wireless network and my laptop. My PC and laptop both have Windows XP and my parent's machine has Win2k. It is all configured with the Gateway and DNS settings pointing to my PC and each machine has a fixed IP address. The annoyance is that whenever my parent's try to connect up their machine the network, the network connection icon changes to show that it is connected to something but the ICS still won't work and when I ping the router (which it obviously is connected to, since the icon shows that it is connected) it times out!
Does anyone know why this is happening, it is really starting to bug me.
Thanx

ICS is not the best, but you should be able to set your parents PC to obtain an IP address automatically.
The way I would do it, but it is a little more complicated is:-
Uninstall ICS Go to www.analogx.com and download the free proxy server, load this on to your PC Configure your network card with a fixed IP address, say 192.168.1.100 In the settings for proxy server "Proxy Binding" enter 192.168.1.100
On other PCs set a static IP address of 192.168.1.102, next PC would be 192.168.1.103 and so on.
In all cases (including your PC) the Subnet Mask is 255.255.255.0 all other entries are left blank.
In all PCs except your own open Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN settings Tick the "Use a proxy server" box, and in "Address" enter 192.168.1.100 in "Port" enter 6588 OK your way out, thats it you should be able to browse from any PC
