Question : Exchange 2003 Front-End/Back-End Licensing Scenario
Hi all,
I would like to find out more about licensing issues of having 2 Exchange servers. 1 front end, 1 back end. The original plan was to get an Exchange 2003 Processor license (unlimited CALS) and making it both the FRONT/BACK end. But due to some security issues, we decided to have the Front End-Backend configuration. I am aware that I need to install Exchange 2003 on another member server acting as front end. I have the unlimited CALS covered from the first Exchange (PROC License). Do I need to get another Processor license just for that front END? Or can I use the same Proc license and install it on 2 Servers? Or can I just get another EXCHANGE 2003 Standard that comes with the default CALS without having to purchase additional?
Answer : Exchange 2003 Front-End/Back-End Licensing Scenario
Yes, you need 2 Exchange Server License for the front-end back-end configuration. You only need to buy 1 set of Device or User CAL for the exchange server.
