Question : NDS to Active Directory migration

I am currently migrating from NDS to Active Directory.  I am having a problem with the file migration utility offered by microsoft.  I am able to syncronize with the MSDSS utility and pull user information across the network via the Directory Syncronization tool - but I get an error with the two-way syncronization and then view the log, cancel, and it starts again and succeeds.

After I run this session in Directory Syncronization, I run the File Migration utility and cannot map to the UO that I created.  I can create a "shared folder" and map to it, but it cannot find enough disk space to actually migrate the files and comes up with disk space error and then cannot find the network path to the shared folder.

If I try and map to the UO I created, the map button never becomes active -- the shared folder is the only way I can get this to happen.

Any ideas would be helpful.  As stated before, I am able to transfer the users and groups from NDS, just cannot get the files to map and migrate.

Answer : NDS to Active Directory migration

Once you have users and groups on Windoze, you >should< be able to migrate the data using MSDSS File Migration Utility.  If it doesn't work, that just goes to show you.

I know you'd be able to migrate an NT4 environment to NetWare really easily using the SCMT tool from Novell, and hopefully they'll have a version that migrates AD-based Windoze systems (2K, 2K3) someday soon.

It's sad that M$ can't make their tools work that well, but you gotta do what you gotta do.
