Question : Network Problem IP, RPC Server

Hello,

One computer in our network can not access network resources.  The computer is obtaining the correct ip configuration settings.  I can browse the internet on the pc but not access our domain controller.  This PC is running windows XP Pro with SP2.

Problem started because the PC was not connecting to map networked drives.  When I try to access our domain controller it displays an error:
" \\server1 is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the network administrator of this server to find out if you have access permission. The network is not present or not started."  This happens when I click start run and type \\server1\    , I tried a different server and had the same issue.

If I open up command prompt and type ipconfig /release then I get this error:
"An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : The RPC Server is unavailable."

I'm seeing this error in event viewer:
Event ID 7032
"The service control manater tried to take a corrective action (Restart the service) after the unexpected termination of the Windows Management Instrumentation service, but this action failed with the following error: An instance of the service is already running."

I tried a new network cable and a new network adapter driver but it didn't help.  I checked the control panel to see if any updates were installed lately and the last update is a month ago so I don't think its that.

Anyone have any idea what the problem could be or how to trouble shoot further?
