Question : dual DNS configuration ?

Hi ,

i'm setting up a demo win2k3 domain in my company LAN which is currently on novel.
the company already has it's own DNS server (10.1.1.6) which is off limits to me.

so, while setting up the DC, i made it into a DNS server as well (10.1.1.230) .
for it's network setting i set the primary DNS to 10.1.1.6 and secondary DNS to 10.1.1.230.
coz i need to register the other win2k3 machine names in the domain too.

now here's the problem ...
on my client , i set 10.1.1.6 as my primary, 10.1.1.230 as my secondary DNS
but i can only ping computers registered in the 10.1.1.6 DNS , but not those on the 10.1.1.230 DNS
if i set the primary DNS to 10.1.1.230 then i can only ping computers registered on the 10.1.1.230 DNS

what should i do to be able to resolve computer names from both 10.1.1.230 and 10.1.1.6 ?

Answer : dual DNS configuration ?

Simple, give 10.1.1.230 as the primary DNS server and creating a fowarder on your DNS server. You can do this by right clicking on the DNS server in the DNS console and choose properties. Click on the forwarder tab and put in the domain or IP address you want to forward requests to.
