Question : One account on Windows XP Home takes a long time to connect to the internet, then works OK

I have a Windows XP Home machine with three accounts on it (2 admin, 1 limited).  1 admin and the limited account connect to the internet immediately and speed is excellent.  The other admin account takes 30-60 seconds to connect to the internet, and often times out.  Once it connects, all is OK and speed is good.  It did not used to be this way, it started recently.  I have not added any new software (certainly not anything that would affect 1 account0.  I created a new account for this user, internet was OK, dragged over all of their files, and internet was slow.  So it must be something in their account folder as opposed to the registry, right?  The only tell-tale is when I click the internet explorer icon for this account, it shows the IP address in the lower left tool bar for almost the entire time, as opposed to the site name.  Is it having trouble resolving the DNS?  I do not have a firewall, only anti-virus, but I have had that for months and this problem started recently.

Answer : One account on Windows XP Home takes a long time to connect to the internet, then works OK

definately a spyware issue.  Copying the profile over is moving the spyware as well.  Try creating a new account for this user and just move the required folders into the new profile...like my documents, favorites, etc..  Do not copy the entire profile.  The user will have to set up a few things again, but it is the only way to fix that problem unless you login to the problematic account, run adware, etc.. and clean it up.  Then you won't have to move anything.
