Question : new computer setup with wireless verizon dsl router

i have a new computer that i need to connect to a new linksys wireless g router that
is connected to verizon dsl

the dsl router is downstairs with no computer connected to it
and the new computer is upstairs with a wireless card in it

how would i set this up?
i would normally have everything connected to a computer, but i want to make sure i know how to set this up when they are not connected to each other and the router is not connected to a computer at all.

the operating system is Windows Xp Pro
the router is Linksys Wireless G

Well you can configure the router up stairs first with your computer to setup all the security settings and make sure you have the proper wep/wpa configured. Besides, I believe the new linksys routers requires a cd for the intial setup compared to the previous models? Either way, you can complete your setup with the computer and router then move the router downstairs and hook it up to the DSL modem.
