Question : If I can get a mobile phone signal will I be able to get a GPRS connection for my Blackberry?

Please excuse my ignorance on this subject but I am trying to establish whether I will be able to send and receive email whilst I am living on a mountainside in Slovenia for 6 weeks.  What I know is that last time I was there I was able to use my mobile phone. The signal wasn't fantastic but adequate.

Now I know mobiles work on the GSM network in Europe but does that mean I will also be able to use the internet capabilites of my Blackberry to access my email via the mobile phone network??

If it is not guaranteed then how do I find this out for sure?

Many thanks
Sam

Hi,
If your mobile network has GPRS and you have access to that service whilst in town, there should be no reason why you should not be able to access from a remote area if GPRS facility is available in that area to begin with.

Since you use a blackberry I suppose you are referring to push email. In low signal areas I have found it to be a bit difficult to work with.

Instead you could use the Opera Mini to access your emails if you have web access to your email accounts. http://www.blackberrycool.com/2005/11/14/001077/

The advantage is that the Opera Mini is capable of operating in low bandwidth situations due to the way that it manages the data being transferred. Try this app now and see.
