Question : Set up a Netgear router behind Qwest DSL Actiontec Modem

Has anyone got a detailed step by step solution how to do that?
I have disabled DHCP on the Actiontec, still the Netgear does not provide a stable signal.
I can log in to it at 192.168.1.1, but it acquries another IP address like 192.168.0.6 from the Actiontec.

Answer : Set up a Netgear router behind Qwest DSL Actiontec Modem

Why would there be a switch between the two?  If you want the netgear serving as the router, then you shouldn't have anything else between the two.

In any event, it looks like this is a netgear wireless router (you don't mention the model and this is the first time you mention wireless).  If you just want it to serve as a wireless access point:

  1. Turn DHCP ON on the Actiontec
  2. Turn DHCP OFF on the netgear
  3. Set the netgear to a fixed IP in the same subnet as the actiontec, but away from the autoassigned IP numbers.
  4. Connect the LAN side of the netgear to the switch (or actiontec)
  5. Configure the wireless security and such from a wired connection.

Essentially, you'll not use the Router functionality of the netgear.  Instead it will work like a switch and wireless access point.

Good luck.
