Question : Error When Re-Connecting to Internet?

If I choose to disconnect from the Internet and try to re-connect shortly after, I get this message "Error 0734 : The PPP link control protocol was terminated.".  Could you please advise why this is and what can be done to prevent it in this case?
 
If I keep trying I can usually get on again - but why does it always fail to reconnect after I have been connected previously?
 
I am using Windows XP Home SP 3.  Using ADSL with a SpeedTouch 330 USB modem.  Internet connection is usually reliable otherwise.  ISP is Virgin Media.
