Question : Domain not available

Hi Experts,

We have 39 PCs connected to a domain and students normally login to the domain.
Today some students were able to login to the domain but some computers show why "domain is not available".
Network specs: workstations(W2kpro)/Server (W2k Server)

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanx in advance,

Nan

Answer : Domain not available

Check the event logs on your server for any odd entries.  Post the Event ID numbers and basic text of any non-normal events that you find.

Is the server busy?  Control-Alt-Delete-->click Task Manager-->go to the Performance tab.  Check to see if the processor is consistently running at high levels, probably anything over 20-25% is high.  If it is high, go to the Processes tab-->click the CPU column heading twice, if anything besides System Idle Process is at the top, note what it is.  If you can identify it, stop the application/service that may be using it.  If you cannot identify it either post it here or reboot the server.

Go to a problem workstation, log off and log back in, does the problem go away?

Some further troubleshooting steps--
Is there any pattern that you can determine regarding who is having the problem and who is not?  What are the differences between the two groups?
