Question : Wireless Bridging /  Wireless Distribution System (WDS)

I have 2 Belkin Wireless G routers Model# F5D7230-4 v9

I want to use the Wireless Bridging /  Wireless Distribution System (WDS) function. I believe this is where I can have 2 access points to cover a wider range. Now how do I setup the SSIDs? Should they be the same or different?

Answer : Wireless Bridging /  Wireless Distribution System (WDS)

This is correct. SSIDs must match AND all security/encryption settings must be exactly the same.

Please do note that while these devices are in this configuration all throughput is effectively halved - the devices only operate in half duplex wireless mode.

In otherwords, you will not be seeing 100% of your possible speed... more like 50% and under to be exact. This is not ideal for file sharing on a LAN. Only do it if you must and the negative impact on throughput doesn't matter.

Cheers! Let me know how that helps!
