Question : Computer won't connect to internet

I am working on a computer that won't connect to the internet.
It was in the domain, using a static ip.  I set the computer up maybe 6 months ago and then ghosted it to another computer.  I am not sure which is the original and which was ghosted.  1 works, the other doesn't.

I have tried removing it from the domain deleting the entry for it from active directory.  It removed itself from DNS on the server.
I ran new sid on the computer.
I tried winsock repair (MicrosoftFixit50203.msi and using netsh commands)
I had to recheck the box in internet settings for "automatically detect settings" (under connections, lan settings)
I have tried putting both the IP of the server and the actual isp DNS servers in under the tcp/ip settings.
I ran the internet connection wizard and told it "connect to the internet" "using a broadband connection that is always on"
There is nothing in the firewall that would prevent it from getting access.  ASA5505.

I can ping a website and it resolves the ip address. (the pings don't return, blocked by firewall)
Nothing connects, IE, windows update, symantec a/v update.

What am I missing?

Thanks

Answer : Computer won't connect to internet

I ghosted the computer with a fresh image (the image was originally made from that computer) and it connected again.
So I don't know what caused the problem.
