Question : Novell login keeps popping up for user "System" User system does not exist
|
|
After upgrading to Novell NetWare 6.0 we have had a problem on some workstations with the Novell Login popping up at radom times with the login name "System" We do not have a user system. This happens after the user logs into the Novell network with their correct login? The system login will go away after you hit cancel several times. At first I thought it might be related to printers or an application installed, but have not been able to narrow it down to that has it seems to happen on systems with different print drivers and or apps installed. Nothing appears to be consistant. I have searched Novell knowledgebase and have not been able to find anything. Any ideas on where else to look? Thanks

Do you mean client 4.83 sp2?
WinXP has problems with certain patch levels of the 4.83 client. The best one is the last one for 4.83 - sp3. If you have SP2 you should at least apply the post-sp2 "E" patch.
You could try the latest client, 4.90 SP1a. There are two additional post-sp1a patches available, one for NWFS.SYS and one for NWGINA, that you might try if upgrading to 4.90SP1a still gives you problems.
When you install the client, make sure that you use the custom install, and deselect any and all services that you do not have running in your NetWare environment. Some things that can cause problems if you aren't running the server-side is the default-selected NMAS, which you should unselect if you aren't using NMAS.
