Question : Windows DNS/NSlookup weirdness... Need help resolve it!
|
|
Hi, I have three domains in my org. PDC, BDC and a child. PDC 172.0.1.1 BDC 172.0.1.2 and child difference network. When I type nslookup from a workstation on the domain to lets say PDC netbios name I get a response saying cant find server name for address 172.0.1.2 non-existent domain. Notice how the BDC ip came back not the PDC.
But then I do get the full PDC address and IPs weird ha? I wonder why the second one jumps in and says non existent. I know both DNS server on both DCs see each other fine. Am I missing anything here? What did I configured incorrectly?
Thanks.

No need to worry: you just don't have a reverse lookup zone for your subnet, and the IP DNS server's IP address couldn't be resolved to a name (and the BDC's address came back because this is the DNS server that was queried). This message is completely harmless. If you want to get rid of the error, just create a reverse lookup zone for your subnet with the wizard.
