Question : Grinding Halt
|
|
I'd like to Pick Your Brains for some help, this one has me stumped.
1.7 Ghz Processor, 1 G RAM, Windows XP SP2
Whenever I transfer files from one computer to this computer over the network it slows the machine down to a grinding halt.
The two macines connect to the router via copper (although it is also a wireless router also). 100 Mbps.
Don't know why I am having this problem.
Now the only thing I have changed in the last few days (with repsect to network) is setting the cards manually for 100 Full. Also, I have two nics in this machine both enabled. I changed the registry to enable "load balancing. You can look this up by searching google for "xp load balancing." There are two setting you make. MS also has an article on this and how to set it up, so I figured it must be true.....;)
Please advise as to anything you can think of.
Thanks!

I haven't had to mess with RWIN since the dialup dark ages. You may be over thinking this. Try to remove one of the NICs, not unlpug the cable, but actually completely remove it or disable it in device manager and test. If you still have the issue, swap NICs and test again.
