Question : Moving user accounts in windows 2000
|
|
Hi, I am upgrading our windows 2000 small business server to a new machine. I will need to move the user accounts off of the old machine and onto the new one. Is there a way to export the user accounts so I don't have to manually reenter?
Thanks for the help.

Assuming this a Domain Contoller do this. PDC does not exist in Windows 2000.
Also, Microsoft made this very easy in Windows 2000.
1. Create the new machine. 2. Permote it to a domian controller using dcpromo.exe 3. Make it a Global Catalogue Server. Find on Microsoft.com YOu will need to use the active directory tools under administrator settings. Turn off the old machine and see if people can login. This is a good check. 4. Transfer the 5 Fismos Roles over to the new machine. Same tools. Find info on Microsoft.com. 5. Run dcpromo.exe on the old machine to demote it from a domian controller.
Hope this helps!
