Question : Do you recommend disabling ipv6 on a 2008 Server ?

I am setting up a Windows Server 2008 to act as a File Server, and act as a 2nd DC and DNS,GC Server. We don't have any application or device using ipv6 and don't expect any soon. Also size of network is fairly small: 150 pc's. Do you recommend disabling ipv6 in this scenario ?

I am getting some minor errors in dcdiag /test:DNS and some documents I found suggest to disable ipv6. I'd like to confirm this won't cause any issues.

If I need to disable it, what is the proper hex value to use in the key HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip6\Parameters\DisabledComponents: 0xff  or 0xffffffff  ???
How do you disable the ipv6 loopback ?

Thanks

Ok. If you aren't running Exchange on the Windows 2008 Server then uncheck IPv6 under your properties of your NIC.

You don't have to go into the regsitry. Once you uncheck IPv6 the loopback won't be used either.

Once you hve done this run ipconfig /flushdns, ipconfig /registerdns, and if it a DC run dcdiag /fix
