Question : Does WINS receives entry for hosts in different subnets !!!

Hi friends !

I just want to clear my  doubts regarding WINS.

Please have a look at the file that I have attached. In this file PC-02 and PC-03 are on Subnet 1. They are configured to make their entry in WINS (by default H-node) and so they will make their entry in WINS. (no doubt as they are in the same broadcast domain)

I just want to clear my doubt whether PC-03 (that is in Subnet 2) will be able to make entry in WINS (in Subnet 1) or not, as they are in different broadcast domain. And I don't have any WINS Server in Subnet 2 that will replicate data from WINS in Subnet 1.

Regards.

Nope it won't be able to populate itself into the WINS, because that would require broadcasts (which won't pass through the router).  However, PC03 could still do lookups directly on the WINS, if you point it there, because then that'll be regular unicast traffic, which will route through the router successfully.  Also, you could manually add an entry for PC03 in the WINS server, and then the other OCs will be able to find it too.  I hope that makes sense.
