Question : Configure DNS to point domain name to web server
I'm running Windows 2003 Server with DNS configured on my domain controllers.
I'd like to point my FQDN to a web host on my network.
For instance I'd like mydomain.com to point to my web server instead of users having to enter the full name of the server
www.mydomain.com
. I need help accomplishing this internally to my network.
This is already configured so that people on the Internet can just enter mydomain.com and are redirected to the web server.
I assume the best way to do this is to create an A record on the DNS server set to Same as Parent with the IP address of my web server. I just need to make sure this won't have unexpected consequences or impact on other service like e-mail etc. Any help would be most appreciated.
Answer : Configure DNS to point domain name to web server
Yes; you can not add "Same as parent" entries pointing to other machines without expecting trouble in AD.
That leaves you only with the possibility to use an IIS on the DCs to redirect the clients to where your actual web server is.
