If you have any encryption enabled on the wireless router remove the encryption and try again to connect using DHCP. If it is successful then your wireless adapter in the laptop does not support the encryption method you are using. Either change the encryption to one compatible with your adapter or update the drivers for your adapter to newer versions that support your adapter. If you don't find newer versions of the drivers for your specific adapter don't give up. I have had this problem before and the manufacturers of the adapters are very lazy in updating the drivers for these cards/adapters. I had to update the drivers for my wifes Linksys WPC300N wireless card to Broadcom drivers I found on an HP site go figure??? But once I updated to these drivers the card now connects perfectly with the advanced WPA2/AES encryption algorythms. Find out who makes the chipset of your device and then find the drivers from the chipset manufacturers site if the adapter manufacturer does not have any newer drivers available. Good Luck!
